[ It was a collective indolence, a mental blockade that kept the majority from allowing their mind to expand that far. Fighting wasn't meant to train, but to serve as a therapeutic means to temporarily liberate the mentality of war that had been nurtured, hoarded into an unrelenting yearning for victory in strength throughout their childhood. A noble reply - scarce, if not nearly nonexistent from the place he came from, but it wasn't something he could register in empathy. The statement following after, however compiled idle confusion into warm familiarity. In his own way, perhaps he can understand now.

Akira would have questioned her, if he remained stagnant, never-changing. But, that subtle conviction reminded him of what he had vehemently rejected in the past, what he had gradually honed with every lingering absence of several hours that entered metamorphosis that developed into days. He began to wonder for the first time since he had arrived if he would be able to protect anyone, his friend in particular, with the way he was now, if it was in his best interest to ignore the general dissatisfaction of working with others to achieve what he currently aimed for.

[ He has seen eyes like that before: bright, clear - incalescent, a vast contrast against what he was more accustomed to, opaque in aimless diversions. The novelty of it all remained, a deeply engraved impression that never left, brimming with determination and life. Akira stared briefly as if entranced before lowering his eyes eventually. A memory from the past, inconspicuous underneath the pile produced by the present, surfaced bit by bit. It wasn't something he would have understood then - to fight for someone instead of doing so for themselves, it was a foreign notion that only left him unusually agitated. But, it went without saying now. In a way, he could say that the same applied for him. But, he didn't feel the need to convey that to a stranger. ]

[ It was an easier topic to focus on, one that held an insouciant weight of curiosity. But, there was something vague that lingered, a faraway conversation he once had with someone else.
